Protecting and enhancing Woodland Understory

Winter is when our woodland conservation works comes into their own and our specialist team of Big Lad, our working Clydesdale and his handler Champion horsewoman Ethel Worthington work off their summer fat.

Extracting timber by heavy horse  significantly reduces the  damage to the delicate woodland flora. Also it really  attracts and engages the public in this important aspect of woodland conservation.  In  the summer the team can be found recovering moorland   species through bracken rolling, harrowing and re-seeding locally harvested material.  Clients around the South Yorkshire  area  include National Trust, RSPB, Peak District National Park, Wildlife Trusts, Water Authorities, Yorkshire Electric, Sherwood Forest.
