Grumpy kids in the house but pretty wildflowers keeping me going as I chuck another load in the tumble dryer in the garage. It’s gonna be a fun day of juggling work and kids today.

A reminder that Saturday was #NationalMeadowsDay organised by Plantlife: saving wild plants to help protect the UK’s meadows and flower-rich grasslands. Nearly 1,400 species of pollinators and other insects rely on meadow plants for their survival but some of our best-loved wild flowers are in decline as a result of the devastation of our wildflower meadows over the last 80 years.

We planted this beautiful meadow from Pictorial Meadows in Nick’s garden in March. The growth and development over three months is remarkable. Blurring the division between the garden and surrounding countryside, it contains an amazing variety of different plant species. Multi-coloured cornflower jostle for attention with corn poppies and the lacy white flowers of the Ammi majus, the Bishop’s flower, which sway beautifully in the wind.

We particularly love the view across the meadow to the clover-rich field framed by park railings, maintaining the beautiful White Park Cattle an ancient, rare breed of beef cattle. They are closely descended from Britain's original wild white cattle that were enclosed in parks by the nobility during the middle ages.
