Pictorial Meadows’ products are frequently used to transform gardens into vibrant wildflower paradises buzzing with life. In the case study below, Theo Sunderland from The Almanac Garden explains how he achieved this using Pictorial Meadows turf.
1. What was the aim of the project?
Inspired by Knepp, the aim was to transform a lifeless plot of lawn into an abundant, fruitful space that would attract as many diverse species as possible. It was essentially a mini rewilding project.
2. Why did you choose Pictorial Meadows?
It goes without saying that Pictorial Meadows is at the forefront of creating species-rich turf that is proven to work.
3. Which Pictorial Meadows turf did you choose and why?
We chose a variety of turf mixes in order to create a habitat that would be as diverse as possible. This included Treasure Chest, Purple Haze, Super Pollinator and Woodland Fringe. The turf has provided pollinators with food for almost seven plus months and counting!
4. Where/how was Pictorial Meadows turf used in the garden?
We created a giant meadow that was split into sections with pathways dividing the areas. This enabled the client to feel immersed in nature and walk amongst the butterflies and bees.
5. What were the results/client feedback?
Better than we could have possibly imagined. In the first season, the turf has attracted numerous dragonflies and damselflies, multiple species of bees, and a plethora of other pollinators. The client continues to be thrilled by the changing scene every day. The dream is to continue to build on what we have achieved so far.
